Netanyahu calls Charlie Kirk 'once-in-a-generation' figure, says he will think of him for 'all my life'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered an emotional tribute to Charlie Kirk, calling the political activist who was assassinated Wednesday a "once-in-a-generation" figure.

"He was a defender of our common Judeo-Christian civilization. He was unbelievably excited to walk in the footsteps of Jesus here. He valued our bond, the bond between America and Israel," Netanyahu said Thursday on "The Faulkner Focus."

"He had his truth. He stood up for it. But he said, you can come and debate me. He invited that debate. He certainly didn't invite the violence, the horrible violence that tried to silence him."

Kirk was shot and killed at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. He is survived by his wife and two young children.

Netanyahu recalled personal moments with Kirk, noting that his son met with him during a 2019 visit to Israel.

"We're shattered first as human beings, because a great human being has been taken from us. He was an extraordinary friend," he said.

The prime minister also highlighted Kirk's unwavering support of Israel.

"He wrote me a letter on May 2 this year. He said, 'One of my greatest joys as a Christian is advocating for Israel and forming alliances to defend Judeo-Christian civilization,'" Netanyahu said.

He added that he had spoken to Kirk as recently as this week and invited him back to Israel.

"Sadly, that visit will not take place."

DR. DREW WARNS CHARLIE KIRK'S ASSASSINATION SHOWS DEADLY COST OF DEHUMANIZATION

Kirk was known as a devout Christian. He frequently spoke about his faith during campus events across the United States. Turning Point USA, the organization he founded, has an entire faith-based branch designed to encourage Christians to turn their beliefs into action.

His death follows a series of politically motivated attacks, including the two attempted assassinations of President Donald Trump in 2024. Netanyahu referenced those attempts on the president's life, along with those on his own.

"Whether it's President Trump, who's been almost assassinated twice or, you know, they tried to kill me here, too. But they got Charlie Kirk, and it's just heartbreaking."

Netanyahu closed by reflecting on Kirk's legacy.

"I'll be thinking of Charlie all my life," he said.

"Maybe they're once in a generation, but generations, then, live by their legacy."
